about
Espio is originally a minor character from a British, 90s Sonic the Hedgehog comic. He has a lot of CRAU behind him, and though I consider his development faithful, he has rather become his own thing.

I keep trying to retire him, but I just end up missing him! He’s a self-indulgent character rooted in nostalgic attachment to a childhood canon. Due to his comic’s obscurity and his CRAU development, I sometimes like to suggest people pretend he’s an OC.
personality
Espio is, on the surface, difficult to get along with. He's loud, sarcastic and abrasive, quick to argue and criticise, and gives the impression he is far more judgemental than he truly is. On top of that, he is competitive, unable to resist a challenge, and enjoys a good fight in much the same way someone might enjoy a good workout. He seems uninterested in making friends, and even if he is not outright rude to someone he still keeps them at a distance.

Though his outward aggression has always hidden a more reasonable, considerate side - willing to listen to and support an enemy in spite of personal feelings if there is good cause, always giving credit where due, and perceptive enough to notice and call out subtle shifts in behaviour - time and experience have made him a more sensitive and thoughtful person. While he expresses it poorly with his forceful approach, he ultimately means well, and has a strong desire to help people.

After losing everything and having to start over multiple times, Espio hides a lot of pain underneath his prickly surface. He tries to not give voice to it - he speaks very little on anything he thinks of as ‘personal’. However, inside hides a desperately lonely person afraid of losing everything all over again, and he clings to what few friendships he does make as though his life depends on them.
humanisation
During his experiences in other worlds, Espio became trapped in a human form. He is 5’3’’, lean and athletic, and has long black hair with a blond streak. His eyes are a bright shade of gold.

Due to the strange, belief-influenced reality he was in, he has retained his powers (colour-change, invisibility, strength, and being able to climb almost anything), and he regained a number of his more lizard-like traits over time. Most noticeably, he has regained his long, pink scaly tail (scaled to fit his larger form). He also has a sticky tongue, and is cold-blooded.
history
Sonic the Comic/Sonic the Comic Online

Originally from a world called Meridian, based in a chaotic pocket dimension called the Special Zone. Espio was one of a team of crime-fighters called Chaotix, though they didn't have the best of reputations thanks to their general poor teamwork and tendency to attract trouble. They have played a part in saving their world and another (Mobius) on several occasions, most notably against a swarm of superpowered robots known as the Brotherhood of Metallix.

Eventually, the Special Zone met its end, thanks to the efforts of a team of villains known as the Syndicate. Key to the plan was Shadow the Hedgehog, and with his limited knowledge of what actually happened, Espio holds a lasting and burning hatred for him. Espio's last memory of home is witnessing it collapse into a void, and he believes he would be dead if not for his unexpected trips to alien worlds...

CRAU 1 - Witches Reign

Set 20 years in the future of Final Fantasy VIII. A powerful Time Compression spell cast by a sorceress had a ripple effect through multiple realities. As a result, many people were drawn to the source world, and popped up all over the place.

With the world responding to these off-worlders with fear and hate, the mercenary organisation known as SeeD brought them to their academy Balamb Garden, giving them a home and an education with the intention of recruiting them into the organisation.

Unfortunately, political drama and xenophobia ensued, as recruiting such powerful and potentially dangerous individuals was not a popular decision. It also didn't help that the continuing effects of Time Compression did some rather strange things to reality...

CRAU 2 - Carvaka

A post-apocalyptic sex game. The world ended. Everything that characters thought they knew turned out to be merely an illusion, and eventually that illusion broke and revealed the truth - a ruined wasteland with a very tentative grip on reality, that could be unpredictable and confusing.

This world ran on belief, with a handful of natives able to alter elements of the world to their will. The problem was that the characters were not entirely real themselves, and this world was heavily influenced by belief. Should people let the truth of reality get to them too much, their existence would fail. To prevent fading from existence, a distraction was required, and the most reliable distraction was sex. The more 'real' someone was through this distraction, the more their belief could change little pieces of the world and make it at least a little easier to survive.
